Contemporary Italian Home Decor, Tableware & Wine Accessories
Founded in 1922 by Giovanni Alessi, Alessi was set up with the intent of manufacturing tasteful and innovative kitchen products. The company has remained in the hands of the Alessi family, allowing for their inherent attitude, rooted in a handicraft culture, to remain at the heart of the designs created today. Originally featuring prominent 20th century designers, most notably, Philippe Starck, Alessi expanded their production line in the 1980s to include pieces by Achille Castiglioni, Richard Sapper, Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini. In 2004 the company collaborated with a new group of designers including Weil Arets, Zaha Hadid, Toyo Ito, Tom Kovac, Greg Lynn, MVRDV, Jean Nouvel and UN Studio, furthering the distinctly contemporary flair of the Alessi catalogue. Two years later Alessi restructured under three lines: A di Alessi (more economical products), Alessi (main collection) and Officina Alessi (containing the rare and experimental pieces).
